What’s in the name? When in Chinatown, the names of stores and restaurants can be nonsensical, include random numbers, and state ridiculous claims
As of September 1st, I’m in-between apartments and will spend the next 2-3 weeks in Chinatown. Specifically, sleeping on my grandma’s sofa in Confucius Plaza.
Every so often when I log into my CitiBike account to check out my usage. Last month I came across a “Trip Completed” in my history.
I have relatives that live in Confucius Plaza, sometimes referred to as Confucius Tower. Confucius Plaza is an expansive apartment complex with historical significance found in Manhattan’s Chinatown.
It’s been a year since I moved into the East Village and in those 12 or so months, I’ve come across some really great restaurants.
I attended Afropunk this past weekend and fell in love with it.
Gentrification is a complicated issue. It becomes even more complicated an issue when you’re brand new to a city like I am to New York.
I wish there were as many options as the logo collage above. With my mom and dad visiting New York a few times a year, I need something to keep them busy while I’m working or we have some down time.
It’s been about a month now since I started my Citi Bike membership. I love the program; it’s completely changed how I access the city.
When I lived in San Francisco, I was a 5 minute walk from Public Works, an event venue that hosted a variety of parties and performances. One of the parties that I attended was a monthly event called Non-Stop Bhangra
Outside of pizza, chicken+rice, hot dogs, and dumplings, there’s not a lot of diverse meal options in Manhattan where you can plop down a fiver, maybe get some change back, and be satisfied afterwards. Enter Punjabi Grocery & Deli
I rarely write up a review after just one visit, but I’m confident that I’m going back to Noodle Village again (and again and again).
I haven’t been in New York for very long, so I haven’t established deep relationships with local businesses. Still, in my short time, there’s a few businesses I’ve been lucky enough to “discover” that have long-term relationship potential
There’s a good share of thrift stores in the East Village, but there aren’t many that I actually frequent.
After finding myself without my own washer and dryer for the first time in almost a decade, I quickly discovered the luxury of having one’s laundry sent out and delivered.
I like a good bargain, so there’s not many occasions where after paying the check, I find myself happily willing to give extra money for that same service.
Would you recognize Jeremy Lin on the streets of New York if you saw him? I would. I wouldn’t even play it cool. I would kiss him and hug him and massage his shoulders. I would.
Was excited and lucky enough to see the Ai Weiwei exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum yesterday. Here’s some of the photos I took during my visit
Memorial Service for Wen Hui Ruan Wen Hui Ruan, who was killed a few weeks ago in a senseless beating, will have a public memorial service
Locals are angry that Wen Hui Ruan was brutally assaulted and died from his attack from 20-year old Jamie Pugh. Now after a memorial and some time to reflect, the community is outraged that no one acted sooner to get him help.
I’m sad that I won’t able to attend tonight’s public memorial to Wen Hui Ruan, the 68-year old retired garment worker and grandfather who was brutally assaulted by 20 year old Jamie Pugh
I’ve had so many thoughts running through my head when I first read the news story about 20-year old Jamie Pugh attacking and ultimately killing 68-year old Wen Hui Ruan last Friday in Alphabet City.
Here’s some photos from the M.I.A./A$AP Ferg show at the Knockdown Center last night. Though a a cool space, the Knockdown Center has terrible sound
I walked by this concert poster on the way to meet a friend for lunch today and it got me excited to see my third M.I.A. concert this coming Friday.
