After some delay, New York’s newest Zara store opened today at 222 Broadway and Ann Street in the Financial District.
The FiDi location is the Zara’s eighth store in Manhattan. The 30,000 square foot, three-level retail location for the Spanish fashion giant can be found across the street from the Fulton Transit Center and has been in the works for nearly two years.
It was reported that this Zara would open as early as late-2014 and the last we heard was that it was going to open in the first quarter of 2015. That obviously didn’t happen. The good news is that it is open and it’s one of the rare retail locations opening outside of Brookfield Place. There’s a reason for that:
“We believed Zara’s flagship store format would be better suited to a strong Broadway street location, as opposed to the more mall-like environments of Brookfield Place or the World Trade Center retail,” said Bradley Mendelson of Cushman & Wakefield back in January 2014.
Luckily for Zara fans, the flagship store also isn’t in the nearby Westfield World Trade Center. The retail center that has seen delay after delay and is now delayed until early 2016.
This newest flagship is the most “downtown” Zara location and its third store on Broadway, the winding street that cuts across the borough. The other two locations with a Broadway addres are SoHo and Upper West Side.
