If you’ve recently run into ads from an online furniture retailer called Jennifer Taylor Homes, you’re not the only one. As I was rummaging through the typical furniture listings from Wayfair, AllModern, Joss & Main, Amazon, Bed, Bath and Beyond looking for a couch that would fit our space, there was a new, unfamiliar (to me) entrant.

And the thing about Jennifer Taylor Homes was that they offered the (seemingly) same exact couch I was interested in for between 25-50% less than the competitors. That set off a bunch of alarms and yellow flags. While the designs of  Jennifer Taylor Homes are available through various online platforms including its own website, Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Amazon, that wasn’t enough for me. The really really low prices concerned me and I wondered whether Jennifer Taylor Homes was some form of phishing or scam website.

While you might be impressed by the 300+ positive reviews from Google Reviews that highlight the quality and design of the furniture. if you look deeper, five star review after five star review is not very specific and a too vague. Same length. Talked about shipping, efficiency, and prices. On other sites, JTH has generated mixed customer feedback across different review sites.

Could they be real reviews — maybe?  I don’t know I feel like when real reviews are made there’s a randomness to them. To me, these all feel like they’re written by one person.

On another review site, Jennifer Taylor Home has faced criticism, particularly from 3 reviews on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) where it holds a low rating due to customer complaints about product quality and customer service issues. Complaints on BBB primarily revolve around unaddressed service issues and product defects that were not resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Is Jennifer Taylor Homes Legit?

Despite these negative reports, the presence of numerous positive reviews and Jennifer Taylor Home’s longstanding market presence suggest that it could be a legit business. Their About Us page says they’ve been doing businesss since 1991, but we know that can be faked. I needed to do more research.

I did a WhoIs on their  https://www.jennifertaylorhome.com/ domain name to find that the website was registered in 2013. According to Archive.org, Jennifer Taylor Homes website has been around as a furniture store since around late 2014. These two signals are a good sign it’s been around for this long.

Another positive sign was that Jennifer Taylor Homes beds and couches could be found on Amazon, Home Depot and Bed, Bath & Beyond. While this doesn’t necessarily guarantee you that Jennifer Taylor Homes won’t end up scamming you, it does say something that these larger big boxes are doing business with JTH. Because if they weren’t delivering their products to their customers, Amazon, Home Depot and BB&B would remove them with haste.

What Does Reddit Say?

It’s weird for a website to have been around since 2014 and not have dozens of Reddit threads dedicated to finding out whether the site is a scam or legit. The only thread I was able to find was this one: Is Jennifer Taylor Home legit? that was posted in March 2024 sometime. Great that the thread exists, but for site that’s a decade old, it’s unusual for it to only have one Reddit thread or post.

In the thread itself, it doesn’t give much detail. The OP ordered a couch and didn’t receive an order confirmation email :/ They ordered the couch and hadn’t received the couch for two weeks. It’s been a couple days since they said it would be delivered and they haven’t updated the thread. Based on the conversation where OP was very leery of JTH, the assumption is that since the OP never came back is that they received the couch. If they didn’t, I assume they would have come back to complain.

My Experience with Jennifer Taylor Homes

With some of the above online sleuthing, I wasn’t entirely 100% confident, but I was confident enough. So despite some of their reviews looking real fake, I placed an order with Jennifer Taylor Homes for their Marcel 72.5″ Bubble Modular Modern 2-Piece Loveseat Sofa, Olive Green mostly because the $820 Marcel couch was $300 less than any of their competitors.

What I found weird is that they didn’t charge me tax which was partially “GREAT!” and partially “okay this is shady.”

I ordered the couch on Tuesday, April 16th 2024 so as the published date of this post, I don’t have much of an update. I’ll update this post as I go through the process — and yes, I’ll be checking my order status everyday.

Is Jennifer Taylor Homes Real?

While Jennifer Taylor Home appears to be a legitimate entity that delivers its products, potential buyers should be mindful of the mixed customer experiences and possibly weigh the positive reviews against the reported issues with customer service and product consistency. This balanced approach will help in making an informed purchasing decision. The company has been operational for a few decades, providing a wide range of furniture that caters to varying customer tastes and needs.
