Good news for salad lovers in the East Village/NoHo. Sweetgreen is planning on opening a location on Astor Place!
The real estate company representing the sweetgreen announced that they signed a 15-year lease in May. You can see the window billboard signage being installed at EVGrieve. From the looks of the construction, the progress looks as if the locally-sourced, fresh salad joint is at least a month or two away from opening their doors.
Sweetgreen is following hot on the heels of another fast-casual salad franchise. Chop’t just opened their East Village location in February at 51 Astor Place.
In other words: THIS MEANS SALAD WAR! The Chop’t location is on East 9th street at 4th Avenue, while the new sweetgreen is two streets away on Astor Place between Lafayette and Broadway. According to Google Maps, it’s approximately a three minute walk from one another. Depending on how long your legs are.
When Chop’t opened their East Village location, they gave away free salads. Sweetgreen also is known to give away free bowls when a location opens. That’s not the only way to get a sweetgreen salad on the cheap. You can get $3 off if you download the app via this link.
Unless another location opens before the East Village one, this location will be sweetgreen’s 11th store location in New York city.
