In a heartfelt message to his Twitter followers, Aaron Carter revealed that he started having feelings of attraction to men as early as 13 years of age.
Grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-years-old l started to find boys and girls attractive.
Since his Saturday message about his sexuality, Carter has been overwhelmed by the support and love he’s received on social media. And emojis! Waking up so overwhelmed by your love and support. Looking forward to seeing you all this Thursday in my hometown.
Those positive vibes are different than what we’re used to seeing from the younger brother of the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter. Since his time as a preteen child pop star, Aaron’s twenties has been mostly infamous news. The younger Carter has been in and out of news more recently for getting into trouble with the law, his troubling appearance, filing for bankruptcy, and psuedo-political stances. The now 29-year old has a reputation as course and troubles, but with his recent announcement, he’s endeared himself to the public by being open and vulnerable with his feelings.
Who Was the Man Aaron Carter Slept With?
As mentioned in the message, Carter didn’t act on his same-sex attraction until he was 17 years old saying “after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that had an attraction to who l also worked with and grew up with”
After the recent news and good feelings subsided, you know people will be (or already are) curious about who the man was that Aaron Carter had acted on his feelings with. It’s a product of our society to gossip about male sexuality and the downside to fame for good-looking male celebrities.
A cursory search surprisingly doesn’t turn up much, but if you dig deeper into the web, there were a handful of posts from late 2013 that suggested who that person was:
These are the full titles of those posts from four years ago:
The Dirty Posts Photos of Aaron Carter In Bed With Gay Actor MJ Rodriguez
Both stories referred to blurry photos of supposedly Carter and another man — allegedly Broadway performer MJ Rodriguez — in bed, before/after being intimate (read: sex), romping around happily. Our conclusion is that the photos aren’t very good and that blond hair twink could be anyone from the early 2000s.
What’s curious is that if you click on either of these search results, neither posts come up anymore. Lipstick Alley’s is redirected several times but ends up at the site’s homepage. And as of this post, The Dirty’s site doesn’t even come up anymore. In the wake of this announcement, there’s no way that both articles are no longer available. That’s too much of a coincidence. It’s clear that someone doesn’t want them to be seen.
Just putting that out there.
Carter was vague about whether his “experience” with his friend/co-worker, and rightly so, naming that person would have been extra. But we wonder: was that experience just a one or two-time thing, or was more of a relationship? Whatever the case, twelve years later, we’re sure he’s more experience in this department. And with that experience and personal growth, it’s not surprising that he’s become more comfortable about this part of his sexuality.
Aaron Carter’s Full Message About His Bi-Sexualulity
Here’s the full letter that Carter embedded into his tweet:
To start off, l would like to say that I love each e
and EVERY ONE of my fans. There’s
something I’d like to say that l feel is
important for myself and my identity that has
been weighing on my chest for nearly half of
my life.
This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight
and burden I have held onto for a long time
that I would like lifted off of me. grew up in
this entertainment industry at a very young
age and when I was around 13-years-old l
started to find boys and girls attractive. There
were years that went by that l thought about
it, but it wasn’t until l was 17-years old, after a
few relationships with girls, I had an
experience with a male that had an
attraction to who l also worked with and grew
up with.
To me music has always been my temple.
Music will ALWAYS be what transcends all of
us and myself. The studio has always been
my safe haven. But the ultimate goal for me is
to be satisfied. I never want to be a figure of
disappointment.
The best quote to sum
“I’ve never felt as though didn’t belong, l
just acted as though I did.” -Boy George
Considering that amount of flak that he’s received in the last 15 years, it’s impressive that Carter put something like this out there. Not that there’s anything wrong with being bisexual, but it’s another angle (of many angles) that can be used against him. That’s to say, it’s to be commended. And that the seemingly bro-ish Carter quoted the unambiguously gay and flamboyant Boy George to close out his message shows that there truly isn’t much “shame” and how comfortable he is in his announcement.
Right?
