Sweetgreen finally opening in San Francisco (and opening date)!

It’s happening; sweetgreen is coming to San Francisco.

Already with a handful of outposts in California — three in Los Angeles and two sweetgreens that have opened in the Bay Area (Berkeley and Palo Alto) over the last two years, somehow the fast-casual leafy-greens joint skipped over the city where there isn’t ever enough salad options.

Fret no more (or maybe I was the only one doing the fretting?) Sweetgreen has been furiously expanding all over the East Coast, and it looks like they’re slowing building their footprint on the West Coast.

This past weekend, I was at their Berkeley location when I overheard one of the workers telling a customer that they were opening a sweetgreen in downtown San Francisco! I asked the worker if they knew when and where and they mentioned somewhere on 2nd street.

After getting home, I did my own research. Sweetgreen’s own website confirms that they’re opening a storefront in San Francisco soon (they’re also opening another in Culver City). The SF sweetgreen will be located at 171 2nd Street between Mission and Howard where sweetgreen will bring their East Coast franchise to take on established salad veterans Tender Greens and Mixt Greens.

An online search doesn’t yield anything about the San Francisco sweetgreen and the company hasn’t released any official details. The website just shows the address with the always infuriating “Coming Soon“, but rumor has it that the SoMa location will open sometime in October 2016.

Just in time for my trip back to the Bay.
