After much discussion and community input (complaining, letter-sending and yelling), a plan has been agreed on for the approximately 80 new stations planned for the Upper East Side and Upper West Side of Manhattan.

This move by Citi Bike (and the expansion into Queens and Brooklyn) feels huge — with the new stations providing access from FiDi all the way up to 110th street opens the service to a demo of new commuters.

Personally, it was frustrating not to be able to take the bikes above 60th street the several times I rode up that far north. So, I’m excited to be able to explore UES and UWS deeper and go for longer rides. Excited for them to eventually get stations up in Harlem.

Anyways back to the UWS and UES. The 78 stations are evenly balanced between the West and the East. By the numbers, there will be 39 new stations coming to the Upper East Side — starting from 59th street all the way to 96th street. The Upper West Side, which is smaller in area size, will boast 39 new stations from 59th street to 110th street.

Motivate, the company that runs Citi Bike, plans to to install all the stations up to 86th Street (on both sides) by the end of the 2015. The remaining stations above 86th should completed by early 2016.
