An intense winter storm is headed for the New York area. Starting after midnight tonight, 8-12 inches of snow will be dumped on the Tri-State area over the next 24 hours. My phone told me that without me asking.

On a side note, how cool is it that Google automatically sends “Winter Storm Warnings” via Android?

Google Now sends storm warnings

This is the kind of thing that mobile phones are really made for – not Angry or Flappy Birds, or Candy Crush as fun as they are – but actual critical, relevant alerts transmitted to you based on your location because it’s important, vital information.

And winter storm warnings is just the small example of the Internet of Things. With devices connecting to our person, our home, government data to all our devices — a future where no data is silo’ed will happen in the next decade.

Let’s see where Google goes with Nest; I’m excited to see what’s in store for us as more and more of everything becomes interconnected.
