I’m a couple years behind on this, but I didn’t have a blog in 2010, so cut me some slack. Here’s a video of Joe Wong killing it at the 2010 Radio and Television Correspondents’ Dinner. Wong goes on for about 15 minutes without breaking his deadpan delivery.
So when I first saw this, I assumed that Joe was just some funny journalist or scientist that was invited as an attendee to the March 17th evrnt – never did I expect Joe to be the actual comedian that was brought in to headline the event. So much for quick assumptions based on appearances.
Turns out I was half-right, Joe Wong is a Chinese-born chemist with a PHD in molecular biology that made a career-change into comedy. He’s appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman” and on “The Ellen Show“.
A couple of my favorite lines:
- “I’m honored to meet Vice President Joe Biden here tonight. I actually read your autobiography. And today I see you. I think the book is much better.”
- “America is #1. That’s true because we won the World Series every year.”
- “If I still couldn’t fall asleep after watching C-SPAN, there’s C-SPAN 2 and C-SPAN 3.”
