Everyone dreams of living in New York City. Though Brooklyn is challenging Manhattan as the borough of choice, “The City” is still the dream. The good news is that with rental prices dropping across the city, you can accord to live in Manhattan.

If you’re in the market to move to New York, or currently living in the city and looking to upgrade your studio, you have to ask yourself, “where exactly is the best possible location in Manhattan for me?” With so inputs and personal preferences, the answer to this question is more complicated than it seems, which is why we we’ll provide some general information about the best areas to rent a room in Manhattan.

Upper West Side

In general, the Upper West Side is one of the best locations in Manhattan. This is because there is a lot of greenery, many parks and of course there is the famous Central Park in the immediate vicinity. If you choose to live in this place, you can expect a lot of space and services. 

Above all, however, it is a space with air and cleanliness. It makes you feel like you don’t even live in New York, but in a green city somewhere nearby. That’s probably why there are so many billionaires and millionaires residing here. 

You can rent an apartment from $3,000 to $ XYZ per month. It all depends on your financial capabilities. Anyway, in this location you will find the best restaurants, cafes, sports venues, shops, delicatessens, and various clubs. 

Living on the Upper West Side is definitely great, and if your financial means allow, this place is one of the best in Manhattan.

Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is a very busy part of Manhattan. It is a neighborhood with many luxury shops. It is one of the best locations in New York. 

The western part is located closer to Central Park and that is why housing is more expensive there. The eastern part is a bit more affordable because you will find cheaper housing prices here. 

Prices vary here, but in general you could pay about $5,000 a month for a more luxurious apartment closer to Central Park, and around $2,500 to $3,000 a month for an apartment further from Central Park, and closer to the East River.

Battery Park City

This part of Manhattan is popular mainly because it has a lot of greenery and many apartments that have beautiful views of the Hudson River. 

There is relative tranquility and it is further from various popular Manhattan attractions. Therefore, it is an ideal choice for families or persons who want to live in a quieter part of Manhattan. 

You will find many quality restaurants and shops here. This part of the city is also very popular due to the fact that they recently opened a new metro node with 11 lines and overall has excellent accessibility. 

You will pay approximately $3,500 for a one-bedroom apartment if you want to rent the apartment alone without roommates.

Washington Heights

It is a soulful and beautiful neighborhood in upper Manhattan. It is just a few minutes by train from Midtown. This district consists mainly of pre-war apartments and is really beautifully landscaped. 

If you want to relax, you will also find a lot of greenery here. This neighborhood is best known for its Hispanic charm. There are many Hispanic restaurants and Dominican natures. Latin American restaurants are found the most in all of Manhattan neighborhoods. 

Large retail chains and malls have not yet found a census here because this district is full of so-called mom-and-pop shops. If you like to run from the city to the countryside over the weekend, it will be much closer now, because you will not have to stumble across Manhattan. 

It’s a really beautiful neighborhood and apartment prices here range from $2,500 upwards. Of course, we don’t have to add that it only depends on your financial capabilities, and if you have them higher, you will also have a beautiful view of the Hudson River. In other words, it pays to live here.

Gramercy Park

So, this part of Manhattan is a real treat. It is a part of the city, but at the same time it is the name of the only private park in the whole of New York, for which only 383 people have the keys. 

If you are lucky and you are richer, you can rent a property right in the immediate vicinity of this park and maybe get one of those famous keys of the park, which not just anyone can get to explore. Of course, you will pay more for renting an apartment near the park, but if you decide to live a little further away from the park, the price will decrease. 

It is a part of the city that can be described as perhaps one of the best because it is within walking distance of Chelsea, East Village, NoHo or Union Square. So you don’t have to use the metro or public transport very often. It is a truly unique neighborhood and living in this neighborhood will already tell you that you are a slightly higher member of society.

Chelsea

Chelsea is another neighborhood we would like to mention. It’s not extra luxurious, but it gets better over time. It can be said that it is a part of the city, famous for being crowded with different artists. 

Well-known artist Andy Warhol and the famous director Miloš Forman also lived in the famous Chelsea Hotel. In addition, there are plenty of smaller restaurants and bars where different types of people meet. 

It is also worth mentioning the fact that, for example, the Empire State Building or Madison Square Garden are within walking distance.

However, it is best to evaluate what is best for you, according to your own personal values, and decide directly on that basis.
