I just moved away from the Samsung Galaxy line and bought the new Google Pixel 2 XL and one of the more useful features that I am missing on the Pixel is the clipboard functionality.
I’ve been with Samsung for a long time (S5, S6, S8) and loved their phones, but was finally convinced to move to the Google Pixel due to the glowing reviews and hype.
When moving to a new phone maker, it’s expected to not have all the bells and whistles, but the Pixel is missing a few things that you would think would be standard such as an easy way to access your photo gallery. However the biggest miss is what seems like a lack of a stock clipboard.
Where’s the Clipboard, Google?
It’s something I noticed the first day I had my Pixel. Now a little over two weeks into my Google Pixel 2 XL and I’m finally getting around to trying to figure how to access the clipboard feature — if even it exists. I know how to copy, cut and paste, but when I open up that menu, the clipboard option is usually available, too. So when I copy to clipboard on my new Pixel phone, I’m like yo, “where is the clipboard history on my Pixel?”
Does Google Pixel Line Have a Clipboard?
The basic question is not where to find the clipboard, but whether Google’s phone actually has a clipboard at all. Unfortunately and shockingly, our research is all pointing to the fact that the stock versions of the Pixel phone series don’t have clipboard or clipboard history functionality!
I know what you’re thinking and I’m thinking the same thing… WHAT?!
For as advanced as the Pixel phones are and as critically-acclaimed as they’ve been, they somehow don’t come with what-seems-to-be-a-standard-feature as a clipboard.
Ok, So How Do I Get a Clipboard on my Pixel?
Without it being a stock feature, you’ll have to be resourceful. A user on Google’s Product Forums suggested using Google Keep whenever they had to copy something important. The obvious other option is downloading one of the dozen clipboard apps available on Google Play. There are several paid and free apps you can choose from.
We don’t yet have a recommendation as to which clipboard app is the best, but will update this post when we do.
In any case, it’s easy enough to download and install an app onto our Pixel, but the hope is that Google will step it up and integrate a native clipboard solution with one of their next Android software updates. We have our fingers crossed.
