How do I access my stock clipboard on my Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL?

I just moved away from the Samsung Galaxy line and bought the new Google Pixel 2 XL and one of the more useful features that I am missing on the Pixel is the clipboard functionality.

I’ve been with Samsung for a long time (S5, S6, S8) and loved their phones, but was finally convinced to move to the Google Pixel due to the glowing reviews and hype.

When moving to a new phone maker, it’s expected to not have all the bells and whistles, but the Pixel is missing a few things that you would think would be standard such as an easy way to access your photo gallery. However the biggest miss is what seems like a lack of a stock clipboard.

Where’s the Clipboard, Google?

It’s something I noticed the first day I had my Pixel. Now a little over two weeks into my Google Pixel 2 XL and I’m finally getting around to trying to figure how to access the clipboard feature — if even it exists. I know how to copy, cut and paste, but when I open up that menu, the clipboard option is usually available, too. So when I copy to clipboard on my new Pixel phone, I’m like yo, “where is the clipboard history on my Pixel?”

Does Google Pixel Line Have a Clipboard?

The basic question is not where to find the clipboard, but whether Google’s phone actually has a clipboard at all. Unfortunately and shockingly, our research is all pointing to the fact that the stock versions of the Pixel phone series don’t have clipboard or clipboard history functionality!

I know what you’re thinking and I’m thinking the same thing… WHAT?!

For as advanced as the Pixel phones are and as critically-acclaimed as they’ve been, they somehow don’t come with what-seems-to-be-a-standard-feature as a clipboard.

Ok, So How Do I Get a Clipboard on my Pixel?

Without it being a stock feature, you’ll have to be resourceful. A user on Google’s Product Forums suggested using Google Keep whenever they had to copy something important. The obvious other option is downloading one of the dozen clipboard apps available on Google Play. There are several paid and free apps you can choose from.

.

We don’t yet have a recommendation as to which clipboard app is the best, but will update this post when we do.

In any case, it’s easy enough to download and install an app onto our Pixel, but the hope is that Google will step it up and integrate a native clipboard solution with one of their next Android software updates. We have our fingers crossed.

    Myself included.
I was sold on the hype about the Google Pixel 2. What a mistake.
I have found the clipboard on SwiftKey to be fairly useful, but I can’t copy portions of a text message for instance, I have to copy the entire thing. -WTF?
The phone is glitchy with lines down the screen. While scrolling a page, I automatically am taken to the url search bar – this evening, I lost gps signal multiple times and the weather isn’t even that bad.
I’m totally unimpressed with the Google Pixel 2 and am definitely thinking of upgrading back to a Samsung.
This phone besides the great camera is complete garbage.

I just got by Pixel after 3 generations of Samsung and I am not wowed either. No clipboard, no headphone jack pug in and no easy way to access screen captures. WTF?

Hi Norm — actually, I think the Pixel 2 is amazing. The best phone I’ve ever had, however, they do need a stock clipboard. Doesn’t seem like it would be difficult.

Having owned old vanilla Android phones with minimal features before I’m not shocked with the amount of features missing from phones like Samsung. One such feature I had hoped would be implemented, like the clipboard, would have been locking apps in the task manager. I had this feature in other phones and it missing on a flagship is rather disappointing. Unless I’m missing something I can’t find it anywhere.

I agree the lack of an earphone jack and the lack of a clipboard option is really disappointing for such a phone that is supposed to be the “latest greatest”

It would be nice nice if Google could Implement them in one of their upgrades that might be coming up.

I’m with everyone else… going from Samsung to Google, not amused. How can you not have a clipboard with history?? In that case just call it a clip cuz there’s no reason to have a board. No earphone jack and i miss my front and back and side to side screens. Going back to Samsung as soon as this phone breaks. I expected more from you Google, shame on you.

Well everyone I just started looking for my clipboard because that the option I get to save certain things…have just read that it’s in the Gboard app ? Let you know if it isn’t. But my 2 is the best phone I’ve ever had except for signal problems with phone calls and data signal ! Waiting on Google support to chat about clipboard. I just usually save to color note or docs… why would it ask me to save to clipboard if it isn’t installed ? Still looking

I don’t know where you are seeing that? When we highlight text, we get five options with the stock OS “copy, share, select all, web search, translate” no “save to clipboard” you must be using a third party app

Google Pixel 3 XL is the worst phone I’ve ever owned in my life outside of the camera and there’s literally no one to complain to. The customer service sucks. The phone sucks. I really regret purchasing this thing. No clipboard? Who does that? The photo gallery is a cluster… The multitasking is the worst I’ve ever seen. I could go on. Any tips and comments on improving this terrible bare bones child’s toy would be great.
